Camper Expectations

Camper Expectations

Stepping Stones Bible Camp has grace for all kids to be kids. We understand that no child is perfect or will be able to perfectly meet all these expectations. We want to support you and your family so that your camper, our volunteers, and the camp staff can all have a holy, happy, and healthy experience at Stepping Stones.

If you have concerns about any area listed below or feel your child may not meet some of these general expectations, please don't worry. It does not mean that your child can't come to camp; it just means that we would like to have a discussion with you about your child, and what kind of supports and/or accommodations may need to be made for your camper. Not all supports or accommodations will be possible, but Stepping Stones Bible Camp will make every reasonable effort to work with you and your family and provide your child with a camp experience, within the capabilities of our organization and hired staff.

Campers at Stepping Stones Bible Camp should generally be able to:

- Dress themselves and wear appropriate clothing for the outings and weather
- Manage changes in routine or schedule
- Be able to handle frequent, loud crowd noises (cheers, chants, loud mealtimes, songs + dances, etc)
- Sit in chapel quietly with their cabin pack for about an hour
- Follow all counsellor and staff instructions
- Stay within the property boundaries
- Refrain from taking or touching other campers or volunteers belongings
- Handle their emotions in an age appropriate manner
- Verbally explain any problems, frustrations, medical problems, or emotions to their counsellors in a helpful or age-appropriate manner
- Handle any conflict without any physical or verbal abuse towards another camper or volunteer
- Take care of their own personal hygiene (brush their teeth, shower when instructed, wear deodorant when needed, know when to go to the bathroom, go the bathroom independently etc.) with support if needed
- Sleep through the night unassisted
- Handle a fast-paced, active schedule
- Participate in age-appropriate discussions with their cabin pack and counsellors
- Move around the property unassisted
- Be willing to try camp activities and games, within the camper’s ability and comfort level
- Play games with an age-appropriate level of competitiveness and ability to lose
- Eat the food that is prepared for them independently
- Sit and participate in Quiet Time Devotions appropriately (Rock, Boulder, and Capstone level)
- Be around, play with, eat with, and communicate with campers their age in an appropriate manner (no bullying, inappropriate language, or acts of physical aggression)
