Communicable Illness and Head Lice

COMMUNICABLE ILLNESS

  • The Camp Nurse is considered to be in charge of the ill or infected person(s) and in charge of the decisions relating to his/her care. The Camp Nurse is responsible for determining best treatment and placement, i.e. hospital, home or camp, for the ill or infected person(s). The Camp Nurse is expected to follow their standards of practice, the health professions act, the infant act (relating to consent and legal matters) and the Camp Nurse Job Description throughout their care of the person(s).
  • The Camp Nurse must seriously consider sending a child home when the following one or more of the communicable symptoms are present. This includes, but is not limited to, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, unidentified rashes.

HEAD LICE

  • Lice are not a general health concern and will not be checked during registration, to avoid unnecessary stress on campers.
  • If there are any concerns from parents they will talk with the Camp Nurse during registration. The Camp Nurse may check for lice upon his/her discretion.
  • If lice is discovered on a camper during their time at camp, the Camp Nurse will contact the parents or emergency contact and ask how they would like the lice to be treated.
